Common questions
Before you buy.
What does the $39 actually pay for?
The Productive Voice app itself: a one-time licence. You install it on your Windows machine and use it forever. The $39 doesn't include the cloud transcription (Deepgram) or LLM formatting (OpenRouter): those use your own API keys. Deepgram costs ~$0.006/min, paid directly to Deepgram; for normal use well under $1/month. Deepgram's free signup credit covers months of typical use. We charge for the software; you pay the providers directly for the inference. We never mark up your usage.
Why bring-my-own-key instead of bundling it?
Two reasons. First, privacy: your audio talks to providers under your account, governed by your terms with them, not ours. We literally don't have a server in the loop. Second, cost: we can sell this for a flat one-time fee because we don't pay the API bills. Bundling would mean a subscription. We didn't want one.
How much will Deepgram + OpenRouter cost me?
For a heavy user (say, an hour of dictation a day), under $2/month combined. For typical use, well under $1/month. Both providers have free tiers that will cover most users' first month or two. Setup is two paste-an-API-key fields in Settings.
What if my internet drops?
Dictation requires an active internet connection to reach your Deepgram account: there is no offline fallback. If your connection drops, dictation will pause until it's restored. The transcription runs in Deepgram's cloud under your own API key.
Does Productive Voice work on my OS?
Windows 11 and Windows 10, 64-bit. On ARM64 machines it runs through Windows' built-in x64 emulation. Each licence covers 1 device.
What's actually in "lifetime updates"?
Every version of Productive Voice, forever. New Style Snippets, new formatting models, OS support, performance improvements, bug fixes: all free. If we ever ship Productive Voice 2.0 with a major rewrite, you get that too. The only thing not included is third-party API costs, which you control.
Team / company licensing?
For now, the simplest thing is buying a licence per user. We're working on a proper team plan (centralised API key management, SSO). Drop a line at team@productivevoice.com if you want in on the beta.
